By following the tech support instruction you can very well set up and configure the Wireless-G router. At first you need to connect the Wireless-G router to the cable modem. You need to turn off both the Linksys Wireless-G router and the cable modem before you go on to connect them. Take one end of the Ethernet cable and plug it into the cable modem. Now you need to insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into the port labeled as Internet. You will find the port at the back side panel of the Wireless-G router. Looking for this won’t be that difficult because it is located just next to the power port of the router.

Now you need to connect the Wireless-G router to your laptop. The tech support experts always warn to power off the laptop before inserting the one end of the Ethernet cable into the laptops’ Ethernet port. The other end of the Ethernet cable is already connected with Wireless-G router. Most often the Ethernet port is located on the rear side of the laptop but surely it can vary from model to model. Ensure that the Ethernet cable is inserted in the right port. Take care so that it should not be inserted into the dial-up modem port.

Now you need to plug on the cable and power on the cable modem, your laptop and Wireless-G router. First you need to turn on the cable modem and make sure if it is properly connected to the internet service provider’s server. Wait until the connection is established. You can easily see if the connection is established because the status indicator for internet connection will blink if the connection is established. You can find it on the front panel of the cable modem. Now you need to plug the router’s power adapter into the power port of the router’s back panel. Plug the adapter into a power outlet.

Now wait for at least two minutes so that cable modem could be connected properly to the Wireless-G router. When the light of the router will be on you will know that the connection is established. Now it is time to turn on your laptop. Insert the CD for set up of router and start following the on screen instructions. If you don’t have the Set Up CD with you can download it from the support page of Linksys.com.

With this tech support instructions you can now log onto the default IP address of Wireless G router. You now need to change advanced settings. Type “192.168.1.1″ in the address bar once you have opened a web browser. Press ‘enter’. You are now in the default IP address of Wireless-G router. You will find a dialogues box containing username and password. You need to leave the username and need to type ‘admin’ as password. Click ‘ok’ so that the setting page for Wireless-G router starts loading.

Configure the wireless and security settings. You will see several tabs for changing the router’s settings in the homepage of the Wireless-G router. You need to click on the tab ‘security’ to change the default SSID. Give it a custom name that can be up to 32 characters and change the type of encryption used. However, WPA-PSK is recommended. After completing these click on ‘save settings’ and the set up is done.
